Happy Spring! Our year is rapidly coming to a close which means we're preparing for the next school year.
The School Based Leadership Team is working to prepare our School Improvement Plan for next year.
We have a couple of opportunities to engage families and the community. On May 21 we are holding a community forum to discuss family engagement. We believe that in order for our school to adequately develop the family and community engagement portion of our school improvement plan, we must engage our stakeholders in an open and honest dialogue. We are working hard to redefine engagement and overcome the barriers that prevent meaningful relationships between home and school (particularly for our African American families and families who are experiencing financial hardship). We would love for all of our interested families to join us for this discussion! It will occur on May 28 during the PTSO meeting that begins at 7:00 p.m. and we will be talking about our school improvement plan. We invite families to join us and provide any input you may have about how to make Spring Harbor even better.
I would also like to inform you that I have accepted a position as the Director of Student Physical, Mental, and Behavioral Health in the MMSD
and will hence be stepping down from my role of principal at Spring Harbor Middle School at the conclusion of the 2013-2014 school year. Please know that I am and always will be committed to Spring Harbor Middle School. If there is anything you need or any questions you may have, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Join the Spring Harbor Greenhouse Gardening Camp
| Give your child a great, healthy, outdoor experience this summer and have them join the Spring Harbor Greenhouse Gardening Camp. Camp participants have a chance to work in the gardens, prepare (and eat) delicious foods and continue to work on the construction of the greenhouse. Students work on art projects, build garden structures and have a great time digging, planting and harvesting. Each week is self-contained so you can join one, several or all four! The camp fills up so sign up soon. The cost is $85 for the entire week but many full scholarships are available.|
Garden Camp Week Dates (All days, 8:30 - 11:30 am)

Spring Harbor Club and MSCR News
TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More), Spring Harbor community service club, went to the downtown Porchlight homeless shelter. Our students became really passionate about the "Feel Good" kits and would like to have a drive to collect donations.
The drive is underway and will continue until Thursday, May 29. There are boxes outside the office for donations!
Assemble "Feel Good" Kits: Help our shelter guests feel their very best! Provide small donations of travel-size toiletries and a warm pair of socks to ensure those most in need have basic necessities for proper hygiene. Kits can be assembled using small ziploc bags and should include the following new items:
· Baby wipes/moist towelettes
· Travel-size soap, shampoo, and lotion
· Toothbrush and toothpaste
· Pair of men's socks (size large or extra-large)
Just a reminder that the last day of After School Programming is Thursday, May 22!!
